Third International Summer Field School "Paleobiogeocenoses of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic era in the Northern Hemisphere"

TSU invites international students and young scientists (18-35 years old) to study paleontological, stratigraphic and paleogeographic methods of a field research.
The field school-seminar is planned within the framework of the main activity of the Laboratory of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic continental ecosystem (TSU Faculty of Geology and Geography). The activity of the Laboratory is related with the interdisciplinary research of biogeocoenosis of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic, abiotical and biotical interaction, the issues of extinction and survival of organisms. The field works will be held in the paleontological localities.
Also, it is planned to conduct research of natural and anthropological sections, to carry out lectures and trainings on the methodic of paleontological, stratigraphic and paleogeographic field research. There is also a plan to teach participants the methods of excavation, basic principles of taphonomic and paleoecological analyzes.

Course Fee (field trip expenses, camping, food and registration fee): 300 euros
In Tomsk meals are up to the participants (~ 3 days prior and 2 days after the field-work period). 15-30 euros is enough for 3 meals a day at low-cost restaurants.
The transport costs of the module 3 include train tickets (economy class sleeping car) Tomsk – Omsk – Tomsk.
Lease of individual equipment is planned for the whole field-work period. This equipment includes: a sleeping bag and a liner for it, a roll mat and a tent. In case of using participant’s personal equipment, this expense is not charged for. Participants should have expeditionary clothes, shoes, a backpack, and personal hygiene means.
Costs for living in Tomsk city are not taken into account (dormitory, TSU’s hotel and other hotel of Tomsk city).

TSU provides 1 full grant for each module which covers airport transfer, meals, cultural events, tuition. Participants have to pay for their accommodation in Tomsk. As a bonus to training, participants will have guided tours around Tomsk State University, its faculties and museums. The City of Tomsk tours will also be provided and accompanied by a highly-skilled guide. Transportation to Tomsk and back: covered by the students.
Taking into account the field conditions for the Summer School, personal sleepingbags and tents as well as proper field clothing and shoes are desirable. If you have any difficulties getting these, please let us know.
Desirable vaccination: against the tick-borne encephalitis for participants in June and July.
