Tomsk State University invites you to participate in Third International Conference Social Sciences & Health Innovations: Making Health Public (May 22–24, 2017).
What exactly does the ‘public’ stand for in public health? Public refers to collectives and solidarities on a local, national and global scale; but how are they made, maintained and legitimized amidst diversity of the globalizing world?
Social sciences play a central role in analysing public health innovations’ dynamics and for understanding the corresponding challenges. This conference examines the complexities of making health public by engaging the perspectives of the social sciences, including science and technology studies (STS), medical anthropology, sociology and history.

On November 23-26, 2016, TSU will hold The University City Forum. The universities are an integral part of an urban culture. Old traditions combine successfully with dynamic development of modern cities. The universities are city-forming for small towns, they determine marketing of such a territory. Small university towns have to specialize for successful competition with theirs big neighbors.
Many university towns take first places by quality of life. The administration of the university, the student’s communities and city halls cooperate for development of infrastructure (for example, Tubingen and Marburg)
Russian university system was established by European pattern. Heritage of European academism should be remembered and developed. The experience of new universities centers of Europe (Passau, Olsztyn) is important as well.
The practice of organization of academic area is especially interesting for Siberian university towns (social support of the students, accessibility of urban infrastructure for them, regular monitoring of the cities, most comfortable for the students).
to determine the criteria of the university town;
to find a solution: how to improve the relevant policy of city hall and integrate the historic buildings into urban well-developed infrastructure;
to work out the guidance for the city halls of Tomsk and others Siberian towns: how to make the city more accessible for the students;
to create Russian university towns rating;
to start the preparation for putting Tomsk in the list of World Heritage of UNESCO as the classic university town;
- to establish an association of Siberian university towns for development of cooperation with similar associations in Europe and Asia.

On 20-22 February, 2017, TSU will hold the first international workshop devoted to the radiation imaging detectors based on GaAs:Cr.
TSU colleagues from research centres in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland will participate. The workshop will discuss the results of the testing of GaAs: Cr sensors and questions on improving the characteristics of the material.
TSU possesses a unique technology of compensation of gallium arsenide with chrome, which allows obtaining a high-resistance material that is used to create X-ray detectors. Studies of the sensors are taking place not only in Tomsk but also abroad, in such research centres as the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY), and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).
City tours and visits to the museums of TSU await the participants of the workshop.
The workshop will take place in the conference hall of Bon Apart Hotel, which has all equipment needed for presentations.
Registration and abstract submission are requested before December 22, 2016.
Proceedings will be published in the Russian Physics Journal
